Guglielmo Pizzirani


Pizzirani was born in Bologna in 1886. He attended the Institute of Fine Arts from 1904 to 1909. In these years he has also collaborate to the restoration and decoration of some buildings in Bologna.

He starts to teach since 1909. He is present in the first three International Art Exhibition of the Secession in Rome in 1913-1914-1915.

In 1920 he begins to participate, by invitation, at the Venice Biennale (also from 1922 to 1930) and in the same year Francesco Francia Association of Bologna held his first solo exhibition. In 1931 he started to partecipate at the Rome Quadriennale.

In 1965 he received the gold medal and the diploma for art and culture from the Ministry of Education and several awards from the Province of Bologna.

In recent years he participated in many group exhibition together with other of Italian and Bolognese painters. In 1967 Francesco Francia Association organized at the Bologna Civic Museum his great retrospective exhibition with 133 works and a catalog curated by Franco Solmi.

He died in 1971, but after his death many of his works were included in important exhibitions and events, as well as retrospectives.
